5 Things The Best Bars Do

Now, I don't have much experience working behind the scenes at these places but I have over 30 years experience eating at these places! So with that to my credit...

Here are 5 things that some of the BEST bars do....

1. GET REALLY GREAT SERVERS

Now they don't have to be super models (although seriously that really does help) but your servers should be beautiful people on the inside! This is the face of your franchise! My best experiences were when they greet you within seconds of you coming in, they're genuinely friendly, they're open and welcoming, they're attentive, they hustle, they apologize when needed and they're patient. They can put their foot down and kick ass if they need to as well. They do not have to be perfect and robotic, but just able to connect with strangers for their stay and return visits. Honestly speaking, I see people return to bars time and again to see and chat with their fave servers. I could write an entire blog on this topic but won't today.

2. COOK REALLY GOOD FOOD AND SERVE REALLY GOOD DRINKS

Should this even be mentioned? Make your food deeeeliicious! Don't cut corners if you can help it! Serving seafood? Make it fresh! Brioche buns taste way different than a supermarket burger bun! We know the difference! Your drinks should be cold and fizzy! I can't believe I have to say all these things but i've been to too many establishments with flat beer and drink for me not to mention!

3. ENTERTAIN ME

Do you have Karaoke? Do you have a DJ? Give me lots to watch on lots of TVs! Is there live entertainment? Are you showing the fight? A really good sign that an establishment cares extra about their customers is when they get really good entertainment for you!

4. MAKE IT EASY FOR ME TO GET TO YOU

Location is such a big thing! Can I park easily? Can my friends and I find you easily? More than physical location, can I find you and your info online? Do you have a social media presence so I can know more about you before I walk in those doors with my friends?

5. MAKE THE ENVIRONMENT COMFORTABLE FOR ME

Obviously this would mean your bar layout and design...but more than that...are you able to remove customers who are making other customers uncomfy? Do you have some sort of security plan in place? Is your entertainment able to engage your customers without making them uncomfy? Can I charge my phone? Can I use your wifi?

I know this is all not rocket surgery to the pros and surely there's science, stats and literature out there but geez I can write seperate blogs on each of the above points because I see and hear of bad experiences ALL THE TIME! I really think the above points are important to any bar or business in my area. Where there is a weakness, then something else should compensate...if you can find a perfect balance of all the above...well, that's a reason to stay!

I hope all pubs and restaurants do well. Because then you can afford to hire and keep us Karaoke Jockeys on foreverrrrr!
